Introduction:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into various fields of healthcare, including reproductive medicine. Among the emerging applications is the use of AI in selecting sperm cells based on desired genetic characteristics, including the baby’s gender. This technique aims to raise the likelihood that a woman will become pregnant particular gender using advanced machine learning algorithm and image processing.
Working principle:
AI-based sperm selection systems analyze sperm samples using high-resolution imaging and AI models trained to differentiate between X-chromosome (female) and Y-chromosome (male) carrying sperm.
These systems can:
- Detect morphological differences.
- Analyze motility patterns.
- Use fluorescent markers or DNA staining to tag sperm.
- After identification, micro fluidic devices or other selection methods isolate the preferred type of sperm for use in in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI).
Applications:
- Selecting a gender to balance the family.
- Reducing the risk of sex-linked genetic diseases.
- Improving success rates in fertility treatments.
Ethical Considerations:
Gender bias, designer babies, and possible abuse are ethical issues brought up by AI-driven gender selection. Many countries regulate or restrict non-medical sex selection.
Conclusion:
AI may be able to use revolutionize assisted reproductive technologies, including selection of sperm for baby gender. While the technology shows promise in precision and efficiency, it must be used responsibly within morally and legally frameworks
